Make a Differnce Day
Make a Difference Day is an opportunity for us to reach out to the Vail community and serve our schools. We will be serving several schools by fulfilling their specific needs, such as painting fences and planting trees. This year the focus of Make a Difference Day is on sharing your faith – therefore you are encouraged to invite a friend or neighbor to come and work alongside you. Also, as you are working, you are challenged to practice sharing your faith with someone with whom you have a relationship. As Christians it is our heart to reach out to those who are lost. Make a Difference Day is an opportunity to reach out to people on many levels.
This year we will be serving several schools in the Sunnyside School District by fulfilling their specific needs. Please join your family with ours on October 25 to make a difference in our schools. To join a team and get involved contact tim@vailchristian.com or 520.722.1220.

Mission Project:
November 6-9: We will be gathering our families and heading to Rocky Point, Mexico over Veteran's Day weekend to build houses with Amor Ministries. We will be camping out and serving families in need of shelter by building them a house from the ground up. Put the date on your calendar, prepare your family, and sign up online.
You may also download and fill out the registration form. Parents sending minors need to complete a notary document. For more information, contact Ron Andler at 520-440-2239.
NOTE: Passports will not be required, but all passengers (including children) must have a certified copy of their birth certificate (if they do not have a passport or passport card). For people born in Arizona, certified birth certificates may be purchased (same day) for $10.00 (see step #2). Here are some helpful steps in applying for your passport, certified birth certificate, or passport card:
Option #1 U.S. Passport
Step:1 Start here by filling out your passport application and printing it.

Step:2 Place to get certified birth certificate:

(The Cherry and Rosemont post office locations do not require appointments. Mornings are less busy than afternoon
Option #2 The U.S. PASSPORT CARD
A less expensive alternative to obtaining a passport. This card allows its holder to cross the U.S. borders of Canada and Mexico via walking or driving.

World Vision: Zimbwawe - Update
On June 4, 2008, Zimbabwe issued an edict that suspended all activities by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the country, on the grounds that the NGOs were sponsoring anti-government activities. This order effectively shut down World Vision Zimbabwe for several weeks. However, in the past few weeks the government has issued a partial lift of the NGO suspension order, and World Vision has been able to resume certain activities. WV Zimbabwe is currently able to assist children in emergency feeding centers, people on HIV and AIDS treatment and those in registered social welfare institutions such as orphanages and elderly homes. WV is also coordinating with development facilitators that live within the affected communities to begin child monitoring. Child monitoring includes checking on the child’s health, food status and presence in the community, as many families fled their homes to escape pre/post election violence. Development facilitators began reporting back to World Vision two weeks ago, and these results will be relayed to sponsors as soon as possible. So far 53% of all registered children are accounted for. New sponsorships are not being accepted until WV Zimbabwe is fully operational. What should we be doing?
VCC remains committed to its partnership with the Limpopo ADP. Please continue to pray for your sponsored child and for the World Vision Zimbabwe workers. Also continue to give faithfully to your sponsored child; all monies that are given while WV Zimbabwe is operating in a reduced capacity will be banked and utilized in the ADPs as soon as it is possible to do so.
Africa Project
In March 2007, Vail Christian Church began a partnership with World Vision to support the Limpopo Area Development Project in Zimbabwe, Africa. Zimbabwe has one of the highest rates of HIV/AIDS infection in the world with more than 33% of the population infected; over two million people in the country are living with the disease. AIDS has orphaned 780,000 children in Zimbabwe. So far, the people of Vail Christian Church have sponsored 70children in the Limpopo ADP; our children have given sacrificially to purchase goats for needy families and our students will engage in projects this summer to provide supplies for HIV/AIDS caregivers. There are many ways to get involved; contact meghan@vailchristian.com for more information or check out www.worldvision.org.

Project 168This Month’s Passage:
Isaiah 58:1-12Scripture meditation is an important act of communion with God. Psalm 1:2 tells us "But [the blessed man's] delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night." To meditate means to contemplate, to reflect upon, or to think on - when we contemplate God's word, we draw closer to His heart and His understanding. We challenge you to commit yourself to reading this month’s passage of Scripture once a day. As you read, pray for God to give you understanding and wisdom regarding the text, and ask Him to reveal to you how these verses apply in your life. Join with us in this meditation, and prepare for God to challenge your heart.

Many grocery stores offer fundraising programs to churches, schools, and other youth organizations. When using gift cards or "club cards" stores will contribute a percentage of your purchases to your organization. VCC just completed registration to participate in these programs. Funds raised will be allocated for use by the children and student ministries.
How it works:
• Fry's gift cards are available in $25 and $50 from the coordinator. VCC will receive 4% of each gift card purchase and recharge. Gift cards can be recharged at any Fry's store.
• Basha's gift cards are also available from the coordinator. VCC will receive 6% of each gift card purchase and recharge. Gift cards can be used and recharged at any Basha's, Food City or AJ's store.
• Safeway will contribute up to 2% of all purchases. Register your club card with the coordinator or through eScrip.com using the code #500016398 or search for "Vail Christian Church". Other on-line purchases through eScrip.com will contribute 2% to VCC.
